About Swedish Family Medicine Residency

Our residency program began in 1994. The University of Colorado Department of Family Medicine, in conjunction with Swedish Medical Center and The Colorado Health Foundation, operates the program. Our focus is to train and educate outstanding, caring family physicians with a focus on the Patient-Centered Medical Home. At Swedish Family Medicine Residency each resident learns to integrate clinical competence, a professional attitude, and the ability to communicate with patients and peers into a life-long practice style.

Residents benefit from the great faculty and other residents, relationships that often become lifelong friendships, learning opportunities close to home and abroad, and the unique longitudinal curriculum that closely replicates the life of a traditional family physician. The Residency Program

The Swedish Family Medicine Center (SFMC) residency program was set up to model the daily life of a family physician.  Our Inpatient Service Model (IPS) provides the continuity opportunities of non-rotational programs, but retains the strengths of in-depth exposure to different disciplines inherent in traditional rotational programs.

SFMR gave me the broad-based training to enable me to practice confidently in many different areas of Family Medicine. The faculty not only trained me, but in many cases became my friends and continue to be a source of knowledge and support even this long after finishing the program. I love SFMR!
